Individual Therapy

Is it right for you?

Do you feel like you are in a constant state of stress and anxiety? Has fear kept your from achieving your goals and living the life you want? Does depression cause a total lack of motivation? Are you finding it hard to get out of bed everyday and face the world? Do you avoid social situations that you would otherwise want to attend? Are you confused about who you are and where you are going? Have you had a hard time shaking past experiences with family members, loved ones, friends, or others? Has a loss in your life kept your stuck? Are you interested in “digging deeper” to better understand yourself? All of these reasons (and many more) are probably indicators that you are a good fit for individual therapy.

What can you expect?

Traditional therapy takes place in an office space between the therapist and the client. I constructed my office space so that you could come and feel “at home.” Feel free to curl up on the couch, grab a blanket, and have a cup of tea. Or, feel free to do none of those things. It’s always about what feels right for you. The first session we have together will be me mostly getting to know you and finding out why you are seeking out therapy in the first place.

My areas of focus are listed on my home page.

My approach often combines an exploration of how your struggle has come to be in its current form (insight and understanding) followed by direct interventions when necessary (acceptance techniques, cognitive reframing, behavioural modification, mindfulness, and self-compassion). Each person I work with has unique needs, so we collaborate together to find out what is most helpful. I see clients for both shorter term (4-12 months) and longer term therapy (1 year or more).

Virtual Sessions

Unable to make it to my office? I’m available for virtual therapy sessions as well as in-person. Anxiety around coming to therapy and talking to someone about your problems is very common for most people. Sometimes starting with a virtual approach can help “ease” you into what to expect. Virtual therapy can also be useful for those of you who live further away, do not have access to transportation, or just lead really busy lives.

In order to make sure our virtual sessions are secure I use Zoom for Health Care provided by the New Brunswick Department of Health. Unlike regular Zoom, Zoom for Health Care complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) as well as the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

If you have any concerns about therapy or are hesitant about giving it a try, please feel free to contact me. There are lots of options we can explore to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.
